[Motorola] Multiple mobile radios on one band (Was: Re: Installation Tips

I have 2 rigs (was going to be 3, but I sold one) on VHF... Since one
is dedicated to 1444.390 (though it is frequency agile), and the other
is a voice radio, I rarely ever have problems, I also have the antennas
separated across the cab of the truck...one on the front drivers side,
one behind the passenger seat... Surprisingly, the only radio that had
ANY problems with my VHF radios was my 11Meter rig... (yeah, yeah,
yeah... Don't start on me :)... It was a midland 79-290 with a digital
display and removable faceplate.... The VHF radios when transmitting on
full power would affect the midland and cause me to need to reset the
faceplate... Simple solution...I replaced it with a Motorola MOCAT 40:)

Desense and front end damage would, I expect, be based mostly upon the
separation between your frequencies and antennas....

Trailblazer...you have LOTS of room in the back for cavities!!

73 and good luck
Ken

I need to start planning radios for my new TrailBlazer. The 2M Icom
sitting on the passenger seat is temporary.

I thinking of maybe 3-4 radios for ham band. This might include two on
the same band, e.g., a 2M mobile, maybe a Mitrek, dedicated to .52 along
with a synthesized rig.

Did those of you with multiple rigs have any problems with interactions?
I expect transmitting will desense all other radios in the same band,
but is there any possibility of front end damage?

Any helpful hints about possible pitfalls welcomed.

Thanks.

Gary

PS: Having two radios going in our rescue squad ambulances can be a bit
confusing. When we turn on the mutual aid radio and have 3 radios going
it gets even more interesting keeping track of who is talking to us. I
keep wondering how anyone would actually make use of 15 or even 9
radios. _______________________________________________
