[Motorola] Can This Be Done?

I've a question for the list and, in particular, Jay Coote.

Is it possible, without much trouble and fuss, to replace a Syntor Xx
push-button control head with a System 9000 A9?  I've got two of these in
my car and would like to upgrade the control heads to something newer. 
IL State Police still use these older heads, btw.
