Please excuse the "generic" answers. I don't have Spectra RSS here and can't
give the
exact key strokes.
The buttons on the dash mount or remote control head are programmable.
You can also purchase the correct buttons from Motorola Parts, (such
as EMER, SCAN, etc) and put those in blank or already used buttons.
Yes, you can program a control head button for
talk-around or "DIR".
As far as the programming, most Spectras are 128-channels (max).
In the software, you must first "add" the channel slot and
then program the information (PL, TX, RX, power out, MDC) into that slot.

Subject: [Motorola] Spectra
I recently got a High power VHF Spectra. This radio has the interface box,
the secure module and the control head on thhe microphone. The radio is 64
channels. When viewed with the RSS, it implies that the radio is 128
channel capable. However I cannot find a place to change the number of
channels fron 64 to 128. Is there a trick to do this or am I missing
something? The microphone does not have a switch for talkaround (maybe I
do not need it). There is a switch for secure. Can this switch be
reprogrammed for talkaround? Can the secure box and the interface box be
eliminated? Al that I think that I need is the radio and the
microphone/control head. Can another control head be used with this radio,
or is the radio unique enough that only the microphone/control head will
work?
A lot of questions. This is my first commercial synthesized rig. I do not
want to destroy the codeplug in the radio. I see that the data is stored in
EEPROM and that the processor is a 68HC11. Is it possible to remove the
EEPROM and reprogram it in an external programmer to change the
personallity of the radio?
Thanks
