The Expo has an MX style antenna mount. The HT1000 has a SMA M mount. The
two are not interchangable. The MX mount has no RF ground. The whole mount
is the RF coupling between the radio and the antenna. The SMA M style has
an outside ground and a center RF pin. This makes external antenna
connections easier. Motorola used two different depths of SMA M mounts on
its radios. The GTX/LCS2000/LTS2000 use a deeper SMA than the rest.
Units that have SMA M antenna mounts:
Astro Sabers
Saber (800/900 Mhz Only)
Systems Saber (800/900 MHz only)
XTS3000
HT1000
JT1000
MT2000
MTS2000
MTX8000
MTX9000
MTX838
GTX
LTS2000
LCS2000
MTX800
MTX900
Units with MX antenna mounts:
MX300 - MX360 (All except 800 MHz)
HT600
MT1000
Saber (All except 800/900 MHz)
Systems Saber (All except 800/900 MHz)
Expo
HT50S
P50
P100
SP50
P200
GP300
GP350
T10
T11
Also, for wideband 136 to 174 MHz coverage, Motorola built a special antenna
for the HT1000 / JT1000 / MT2000 series radio. It is a dipole type, and is
resonant over the entire band. It works ok, but I use the band specific
helical antennas made for the HT1000. They seen to work a little better.
I hope this expleans it a little better.
