[Motorola] HT-1000 antenna question

Good evening everyone. I have  a question about the antenna with the
HT-1000, and the Expo.  I have been trying to see how well the HT-1000
works with 2-meters and it is quite obvious I need to add some length to
that antenna here.  I am using 5-watts, but I can't seem to get the Expo's
antenna to work in the HT-1000.  The antenna from the Expo is a bit
longer, and appears to have the same connector, but I can't get it to work
in the 1000.  Are there any other antennas that may be longer that might
work with the HT-1000?  Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in
