You didn't say which frequency the signal is radiating on. I will presume you
mean the transmit frequency radiates a signal even though unkeyed. What is
probably happening is that the transmitter channel element is remaining
energized during the time the unit is in the receive mode. I haven't looked at
the UHF Motran base manuals in some time but there should be a way to make sure
the element only gets energized when the transmitter goes on the air. There is
probably some control wiring setup which is energizing both the receive and
transmit elements continuously for a particular channel instead of just the
receive one. In a remote or repeater application, the receiver wouldn't hear
the transmitter anyway, so it wouldn't matter. It sounds like just a question
of tracing out why the transmit element is staying energized. The UHF models
may leave the elements energized to increase stability, I can't recall.
