[Motorola] Quantar Repeater Newbie Questions

Can someone suggest methods for the remote control or knockdown of Quantar
repeaters?

There are pins 7 and 11 in the backplane 50-pin connector for knockdown, but
these deactivate when the 
Quantar is programmed for mixed mode (Astro) operation.  Programmer error?

Can DTMF or other encoding be used, without PL/DPL and having it repeat, to
enable or disable a Quantar
repeater... does Quantar have a programmable decoder?
