[Motorola] Quick disconnect MT2000 cable / speaker mic?

Hello;
Has anyone ever tried to modify a Mot speaker mic for an MT2000 to make it do 
"double duty", so to speak, as a programming cable as well as a speaker mic? 
Just wondering. Any and all info would be much appreciated!
