Actually, there were no slugs of any kind in the coils nor any evidence
that there had been any in the past in this unit. The RF amplifier stage
is operational and exhibits what calculates to be "normal" gain. There
is no evidence of any malfunctioning circuits. I will try brass slugs
(if I can find some of the proper size and thread) and see how the
sensitivity improves. I still believe the capacitors will need to be
changed.

BTW: The full quieting sensitivity of the receiver at its old frequency
was app. .27uv.
