If it's a reed type, you may have a slow reed.
It may also be a cracked/cold solder joint in 
common with PL transmit.

Good morning everyone.  I have a question about the MT-500, and it is
regarding the PL on it.  I have discovered finally that the only way that
I can make the  radio actually transmit with a PL is by squeezing the radio
on  bottom of it.  The radio will still transmit but with no PL after a
few seconds when left a lone though, but I also have discovered that the
front  pannel is cracked just below the speaker.  Is this just a loose PL
 reed or what?  
	I am suspecting that this radio  was just around by a  frustrated
tech, because after the arrival of the newer radios this wasn't used much,
and my guess is is that it went in for repair, and the tech got upset and
may have thrown it.Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.
