Wow !
Thanks for all the wonderful replies already. It's amazing to realize
just how rare these radios I have are, especially since I have the
RTS-600S AC power supply as well.
The biggest detriment to mine is the fact that both dial glasses are
broken. I plan to get all the cases resprayed at the same time by a
local body shop who also helped me massage out a dent in the front panel
of the power supply from where it got dropped. And yes, I sure do love
the fact that the lettering is embossed in. I will probably replace the
dial glass with lucite or plexiglas. Not original, but available since I
have to do both.
Ray Morrow was, in many ways, ahead of his time with these radios. For
instance the use throughout of phillips-head screws which were uncommon
in 1958. And the fact that all fasteners were treated to a dabbledoyah
of loctite as befits a mobile radio. It really is too bad that there
isn't more of this stuff to collect.
I do know of a ham who is looking for a parts donor MB-565 transmitter.
He is repairing a damaged gear in the VFO drive of a radio that belonged
to his Elmer and unfortunately neglected to take adequate photos of the
layout. I'm trying to nurse him along with such diagrams as I can make
up, but I know he'd be interested in either an MB-6 receiver (he
currently has the converter for RX) or a parts donor MB-565 transmitter.
His call is W3ST and his email is collinsradio at comcast dot net.
And K7DDG, yes, I'd LOVE to do a sked on 40 once I get mine up and working.
Thanks and VY 73 de W1ICW
