I'll research what logging software is available for Linux. Or these matches should be able to run Win XP. And we can possibly lighten up XP by installing it using something like nLite. Erich Kaiser W1EJK ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: David Wolfe, KG1H Date: Mon, May 4, 2015 at 7:28 AM Subject: Westford Apple Blossom Parade - Saturday May 16th To: "Erich Kaiser, KB1TGN" Hi Erich, We are still short a handful of hams for the Westford Apple Blossom Parade on the morning of Saturday May 16th. We could still use a few more hams to make the coverage requirement. The parade starts around 10 AM near the junction of Graniteville Rd and Main St. and ending at Abbot School. You will need to be available from 8:30/9:00AM until 11:00AM/noon at the latest. All you need to bring is a 2 meter walkie and some good walking shoes. Most volunteers will be assigned to "shadow" various members of the AB Parade committee. Our actual duty will not start till about 9:00AM but we need to get into the center of town before the roads are closed and we need to establish our assignments by 8:30 AM or so. Thank you Paul, W1SEX for arranging that. Here are just a few notes and information with last night's meeting. -- Special Event Station at Relay for Life We need lots of volunteers for setup and operating the special event station. An online signup sheet has been started at Signup Genius. The link to sign up is http://goo.gl/n3y7dD -- SKYWARN There will be a SKYWARN training coming up next week in Maynard, MA. Details below. Wednesday June 3rd 2015 - 7-10 PM Maynard Public Library - The Roosevelt Room 77 Nason St Maynard, MA Taught by: NWS Forecaster Registration: None Required More SKYWARN info at www.wx1box.org. And even if you are not a trained SKYWARN spotter it is important to assist the National Weather Service when they call for severe weather reports from our area. -- Field Day Looks like we are going to run a 4 Alpha station this year by utilizing the GOTA (Get On The Air) station as a normal station when not in use for GOTA. We'll have to work out the logistics of that during our next Field Day planning meeting on June 8th. That said, we will need plenty of help and operators this year. We will likely set up another online signup page for Field Day stuff. Stay tuned. That covers is for now. 73 Kevin, N1ERS From dlepisto at gmail.com Sat May 30 15:00:26 2015 From: dlepisto at gmail.com (Doug Lepisto) Date: Sat, 30 May 2015 15:00:26 -0400 Subject: [MohawkARC] Notes from club meeting In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <6F26D214-DA3B-41BD-A0C6-94BDF555AA0F@gmail.com> A couple things come to mind with running Field Day as 4A. These are my concerns. 1. What class will the Fitchburg club be running for Field Day? If we are to have a friendly competition, running 4A with them running 3A would be unfair and we couldn't have a comparison in our operations. 2. If we do run 4A it would be better to have a fourth station that is separate from the GOTA station so that it could be utilized the entire time. If it's being shared as GOTA this presents two problems. First, while Field Day isn't an official contest, we wouldn't have a "competitive" edge in the 4A category since we'd only be "part-time" 4A. Second, this would also present a logistical problem with logging as the GOTA station call sign must be different from N1WW (our main Field Day call). If there is a need for a GOTA station (when/if we get visitors), then it can revert to such. I'd much rather get more people on and operating than being constrained to 3 stations and having people unable to get air time. Bill was going to talk to our friendly competitors. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that we could run 4A full-time, with an additional GOTA station using a simple radio/antenna like an IC7000 with a multiband vertical. That would simplify things and allow a bunch to get on the air. 2) We were never competitive to begin with in 3A, we finished 78th in the country last year. If we had entered 4A, even with the score last year we would have come in 49th. The score would have been even higher with the additional station. -Matt NM1C On Sat, May 30, 2015 at 3:00 PM, Doug Lepisto wrote: > A couple things come to mind with running Field Day as 4A. I agree that we could run 4A full time too, and just have a separate simple GOTA set-up. That would fix the logging issue. Or since we're going to have 4 stations we could just get rid of the GOTA all together and if anyone from the public wanted to operate they could just use one of the 4 stations with the normal N1WW call.
