We got all the cables out of the barn today.The coax cables may need new connectors, no big dealThe rotor and rotor cable are good............That's the good news
Now the bad
Thrust bearing may be rusted in place. we did spray it last week.Tomorrow we can grease it and put a little mussel to it.
Tom, do you have a thrust bearing or know where we?can get one fast?

Good news, the thrust bearing was not frozen
Matt, Erich and myself worked on the antennas today. Very cold and windy, here's where we are at.
40 meter rotating dipole will have to wait until spring, we need to figure out a new mounting method.
Rotating beam?has excellent SWR on?all 3 bands?
Fixed beam has?a bad coax. Matt will repair it.
The 2 long coaxes from the barn need to be repaired, I will fix them.
We will do 1 more work detail before it gets to cold. 
We still need to?line up?the rotor control?to the antenna.
Replace coax on fixed beam and check the SWR
Check out the long rotor control extension cable

The thrust bearing mounting pattern on the us towers is designed for a us
tower tb. Unfortunately it's not the same pattern as a Rohan or yaesu
tb. The antennas on the tower are well within the vertical weight rating if
the rotor, so if you want to fashion a wooden collar to keep the mast in
line instead if using a tb, that should work fine.

Or, of there's space, the top plate could be re drilled for another brand
tb. Just make sure to use some cold galvanizing on the re drilled holes if
you go that route.

All us tower parts ship from the factory in ca ( not in stock at hro), so
unless someone has one lying around, there's not likely a way to get one
quick.

The Cushcraft A4S?has a bad trap or it's in the wrong location, we will fix this in the spring
Rotating 40 meter dipole will also be fixed in the spring
We tied off 1 end of a 80 meter dipole to the tower, the other end will be tied off near the road next week.Hopefully the feed line will end up?above the trailer.
We did raise the tower and rotated the antenna with no problem today.
Rotor extension cable not working, I will fix it this week.
Matt NM1C is planning to run the CQWW DX CW contest from the trailer the weekend of NOV. 29-30We are planning a second more automated station for search and pounce for anyone to use.This contest will operate under Matt's call sign NM1C. For further details please check with Matt

Bill,

Wonderful to hear that the station will get some use during the WWCW
contest!  Wish I could come up and operate a little bit, but I'll be in VT
that weekend.  I'm going to start working on getting my SO2R setup back
into working order and maybe I'll head up to operate ARRL RTTY roundup in
January.

Thanks for all your hard work catching up on maintenence.  I'm glad that
the tower and antennas will be getting use.

I do hope to make the meeting next week.

Tower is not grounded. It would be fine to do so if you would like. The
only thing I would ask for a ground rod near the trailer is that it be on
the side of the "road" so it isn't a hazard for any vehicles coming into
the field if the trailer is not there.

We had another good day working on the tower and antennas today with the help of Brue Wilber KB1YRS
Both the A3S and A4S antennas are working as they should.
Station 1 ground?is now completed, more work needed on station 2
Solar battery charger still needs to be installed.
In the spring we will reinstall the 40 meter rotating dipole.
Other than the items mention above we are ready to operate.

Im thinking I will be there around 12-1pm. Contest starts at 7pm.   Ill
have to get the generator fueled up and refill the jerry can, setup my
station, we gotta join all the coax and bring it to the trailer.  Get the
two computers networked, hopefully with a dx packetcluster.

Plus figure out parking, I imagine the entrance to the field will be
blocked with a snow pile.

I'd like to maybe get those bandpass filters working too since we will have
two stations running.  We can sweep them with my VNA to make sure they work.
