Mohawk ARC Program
Tonight Bruce, KB1YRS and Paul, W1SEX will be presenting a program demonstrating the use of oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers. In the frequency domain, Bruce will demonstrate his new Rigol DA815 Spectrum Analyzer and how this instrument is used to tune various circuits including cavity filters, coax notch filters, the effects of frequency versus capacitance and inductance. In the time domain, Paul will be demonstrating laboratory grade Tektronix oscilloscopes. Not the usual how to measure frequency, period, and voltage, but some very practical uses such as how to measure capacitance, inductance, coax length, coax impedance and what happens when the load impedance does not match the feed line impedance (VSWR anybody). Paul will also have a slew of interesting websites which you can view to learn more about these very interesting topics. A working knowledge of these concepts is required if you are studying for your General and Extra Class tickets.
While these topics are very technical, being able to actually see on the screen what is happening makes the concepts much, much easier to understand. Bring your scientific calculator if you would like to follow along with the math.
See you tonight at the meeting.
