Dear MARC Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather this summer! Our September meeting is fast approaching and will be held on Wednesday, September 28th at 7:30 p.m at the South Gardner Fire Station. Paul Topolski will be speaking about some recent upgrades to the EOC with the main highlight being a new AM broadcast transmitter that was recently acquired. Part of this will include a "hands on" test when we check the range of the transmitter.

Going forward with this year I have two main goals as MARC President. If you can think of anything that can be done to help us meet these goals please share that information.

1. Increase Attendance at Meetings
Please consider bringing an local ham to the meeting who hasn't been before or for a while. We need to get more people involved. Your input is also needed to help meet this goal. In order to make the club thrive we need to do things that are relevant, interesting, and fun for us.

2. Bring Back "Old School" Field Day to N1WW (June 21st & 22nd 2012)
Picture us on the air with 3-4 transmitters operating SSB, RTTY, and CW on multiple bands. Maybe we're using a loop antenna or cubical quad? Maybe a basic dipole? How about a rhombic or wire v beam??? We need to get back to Field Day basics with tents, campers, bug spray, gas grills, generators, etc. This may seem far off, but it will be a lot easier to make happen if we at least start to brainstorm for it now. Even if you don't want to operate, we will need people to help support this event with set-up, take-down, and by providing us with equipment (radios, tuners, antennas, generators, feed line, etc.) We also need to find a really good location. To me this means a place that gives us plenty of space for antennas while also making us visible to the public. What are some of the locations where successful and fun Field Days have been held in the past? Any suggestions? Maybe we can even break out that 40 meter vertical that's hiding in one of our member's garage!

Doug
