Hi everyone,
First off, a hearty thanks to everyone for all your work on the bureau this season. The new procedure seems to be helping, and we've been able to get everything where it's supposed to go since we put the new procedure into effect.
Next, I do have a few more boxes ready to go out now, so if you'd like to take a box for pre-sorting, these next 4 boxes are ready to go. Let me know, first come first serve.
Finally, every time you mail out a box, you slap on a label to get it to Darrel, K1KU, who has been getting all the cards to the appropriate final sorters. After more than 10 years doing this job, Darrel has decided to step down into semi-retirement (he'll still do one letter's worth of final sorting, just to keep his hand in!) so his position will be open effective in June.
I'm enclosing the letter from Art, W1RZF, our Bureau Manager, detailing the position and its responsibilities...it's a great job, with super benefits, the hours aren't bad, and you get paid in the satisfaction of a job well done that brings pleasure to thousands of your fellow hams. (Sorry, no cash.) If you're interested in this position, please contact Art at W1RZF at verizon.net, and he can give you all the details.
Hello Sorters,
Darrel Daley, our final sort manager is going to retire . He has done a great job for 10 years . Many thanks to you Darrel. He will continue as the K final sorter..
This does provide an opportunity for one of you to take on this position. Briefly the task is to receive 8-10 boxes of cards via the mail from the presort operation and repackage them into 26 boxes and mail them to the final sorters. This is done every two to three months depending upon the availability of cards from the dx bureaus.
This job can be done by an individual as Darrel has done it or could be done by a small group of people in the same locale . Darrel has created a job description which is available.
A little background. The presorters create bundles of cards for each final sorter and box them up and mail to the final sort manager. There are some clubs that do the presort also.
Darrel sets up 26 boxes in his garage, one for each final sorter, and when he gets cards from presort he puts them in the appropriate final sort box. When he has enough cards he labels , seals the boxes, and delivers to the post office.
I can envision a small group doing the job in the following manner. One person collects the incoming cards from presort. The group gets together once and assemble the 26 final sort boxes and put the cards from presort in the boxes. lable and seal the boxes and take to the post office.
In either case I think we should look at using the flat rate post office boxes, They will pick them up and take to the post office free.
Contact me if you are interested in looking into the job in more detail.
thanks
