When your not at your base hf station, or out and about in your
mobile HF station, some times it is nice to be able to listen to
our HF amateur bands anyway. Yep, I much prefer the ham
gear in my mobile, but some times I am out and about and
dont have my ham hf mobile available to me.

Check out a hand held portable standard battery operation
radio that will tune the hf ham bands using its whip antenna,
or a plugged in external wire for an antenna. Surprisingly it does
very well with SSB too.

As of this posting, 03/18/2017, the information below is correct.
There are changes to the production of this radio every now and
then, and no change is made to the Make / Model number making
it difficult to know where the various changes in the production
product serial numbers are. Have had two of these radios, and the
one I bought couple months ago is bit different than one I bought a
couple of years ago. My serial number for this email is:

OLD: 39620120600425 number was in battery compartment

NEW: 39620161000641 number was under fold up stand on rear of radio.
dated receipt was Dec 12th 2016

Being able to listen to the A.M. / F.M. / Shortwave bands in one radio that
you can hold in your hand and uses AA standard batteries can be very
useful. Individual requirements for what someone wants will determine
the category of product they get. If the requirement is
hand held using standard batteries
... well, there just isn't anything else out there to compare to a
PL660. Fortunately the current production of PL660 products
do not have a lot of issues. I suspect they pay attention to
customer feedback and make changes in production as they
can fit it in.

Current radio has great A.M. quality and with great sensitivity,
and audio is good. If ya want to remove the slight squelch effect
that affects weak signals only, then do the mod that I highly
recommend below. Check link on how to do that mod ....
all your going to have to do is put a short jumper / solder
blob across to solder joints and that item is fixed.

Another link will help out for an alignment if you want to do that too:
