Message-ID: <5713FE59.7060002@att.net> Bought a new RAM 1500 Quad cab pickup to tow my travel trailer with and am having difficulty finding path into the truck for the antenna coax. It has a great place in the console to locate the control head of my FT100D. But I've not yet found a way to get the coax in. Previously, I've been able to gently snake the coax in under the hatchback door of my Toyota 4Runner with no significant deformation of the cable. However that is not available of the new truck and the doors on it fit so tightly there isn't enough clearance to snake a cable over any door seal without pinching it badly. Has anyone come up with a good way to get the coax into a similar vehicle? I would like to mount the main body of the radio(s) under the driver's side, rear passenger seat. There is a convenient compartment there. This will be my 7th HF mobile installation over the years, but I'm a bit stumped. Your suggestions will be appreciated. It's teflon dielectric, RG316. For HF, RG316 handles in excess of 500W, and your run is short enough that there will be no real losses added. You can get a large variety of connectorized lengths of RG316 on eBay (or Google for them). That's what I use on my K3/KPA500 setup. In my case, it was usually cabling from the battery to the trunk, but I'm sure that they would have the best chance of getting your coax through, as well. I would take them enuf of the kind of wire I wanted (marine-grade stranded), and in a few hours come back and find a beautiful and professional job. Worth a try. Check out the clearance of any wiring harness by looking at the plates location above the brake peddle behind the instrument cluster.I have wired up several Dodge trucks, they make it easy! I can send you photos if needed of the installation. Message-ID: I hate rust, so just as an added precaution when drilling car body parts, I always paint the newly exposed raw metal with something, almost anything to prevent rust cuz once rust starts, it's harder to stop. Grab most anything handy, even "borrow" a little nail polish from a YL. A wrong color may not even be seen and in any case is still better than rust. Probably more important for those of use in northern climes where road salt is used, but still a good idea no matter where the vehicle is used. Did I mention my dislike for rust? Just let whatever you use a few minutes of drying time before dragging cables through the hole. Just my 20,000 microdollars, YMMV, FWIW, and so on. If you pull back the carpet ( just pop out the plastic retainers) under the drivers side rear seat, you will find a plastic plug that also pops out. Just notch the plug enough to pass the coax through, replace the plug with RTV orother silicone type sealant around the coax entry and your done. Don't forget to tye wrap the cable to a frame to prevent coax droopunder the truck. Your done! For the power leads, there is a plastic plug just next to the brake cylinder on the firewall, carefully drill a shallow 3/8s inch (or larger)hole.
