Here is what I do to prepare my mobile antenna system for winter. First I clean off all the dirt and grime from the quick disconnects, masts, coils and whips. Using a clean paper towel or rag, I dry them off. That extra wiping effort removes a lot of dirt. Then I wax the masts, coils and whips using RainX. Two coats wont hurt. Its amazing how much the snow and slush just slits off the antenna system after doing that. SWR is more stable, and you dont risk arching of the coil housing on the low bands, especially 160 and 80 meters. Some manufactures dont warranty damage from RF arching ... By the way, I do my satellite dish too .... keeps the reception signal strength up during snow storms, especially moist ones. One time of having to go on the roof in the winter time to clean off a satellite dish antenna will convince you to clean it well and wax it before the winter snow flies. 73 from Bill - WD8ARZ South Bend, Indiana From tim at ke4ke.com Sun Oct 19 19:00:54 2014 From: tim at ke4ke.com (tim) Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2014 18:00:54 -0500 Subject: [Mobile-Portable] Winter Time Mobile Antenna Cleaning Time In-Reply-To: <54443D3A.1040508@comcast.net> References: <52E1E492.4030102@kd4e.com> <54443D3A.1040508@comcast.net> Message-ID: <544442A6.7060203@ke4ke.com> Good reminder Bill. This year though I turned the bolts around the other way. The green wires are cut for a quarter wave at 20 and 40 meters. He has a store and manufacturing in Conn. and travels extensively for eastern hamfests as well as mail/web order. He's also heavy into power poles and products of his own design incorporating them. A good guy with lots of innovative products. N1KHB In a message dated 10/22/2014 1:50:08 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, iam at pmug.org writes: Hey! I went back and looked at this webpage again: http://store.caig.com/ There is a note there that one of the featured products replaces the ProGold! It says: "Featuring Environmentally Safe Contact Cleaners / Connector Enhancing Treatments: DeoxIT? D-Series, DeoxIT? Gold G-Series (formerly ProGold), DeoxIT? Shield S-Series (formerly PreservIT), DeoxIT? Fader F-Series (formerly CaiLube MCL) and the NEW, HAND-E-GLOVE?" See especially this: "DeoxIT? Gold G-Series (formerly ProGold)" And, they say it is now stocked at Radio Shack! Try it, you'll like it....
