Ah yes, the bug catcher, and a good name for that large coil of his it was .
I took a used 1kw 75 meter Hustler coil and stripped off the cover and
litz wire (had another one to use with a couple whip sizes). I then
wrapped 200 turns of 22 gauge enameled wire and put a 102" whip on it.
It operated on 160, but of course wasnt the best, but it worked. hi hi
The bug catcher concept continues on with some brands of screw driver
mobile antennas. Those that have 5" and 6" diameter coils about a foot
long provide the higher Q and efficiency of what your talking about with
the bug catcher Randy.
