[Mobile-Portable] UHF/VHF antennas in roof of newer pickup trucks

I was there today and didn't think of it... I'll be over there next
Saturday. Very good idea. I don't think running the wiring through the
firewall will be a problem. There are a couple rubber plugs that can be
pierced. I have a big fuse block I got from a car audio dealer years ago. It
comes in real handy as a central wiring point when running multiple rigs.

Suggest you take it to your dealer and ask the service manager to let you
talk with one of his senior tech/mechanics. They know how everything is laid
out, also know the service bulletins, etc. If not the dealer, maybe try one
of the land mobile radio dealers...they do installations for public safety,
industrial, etc., and know all the vehicles both old and new. Might cost you
a few bucks to tip the guy, but you'll get the correct answers.

Some years back I was gonna run DC from my battery thru the firewall to the
floor by the passenger seat. Wasn't sure where/how to penetrate the firewall
without causing a disaster. Went to the dealer, asked for help, and they
talked me into letting them do it. I told them exactly what I wanted, I
provided the cable & fuses, and ended up with a nice neat/invisible install
just how I wanted it. Cost me about $100 in labor, but I sure am glad I
wasn't the one taking apart the front end of my SUV.

I think I will use this technique in the future....
