HFPack has also turned itself into a commercial enterprise. Have you seen
their web site? Mugs and tee shirts are a dominant feature not to mention
Packer amplifiers. Myself and others have left it over that as well as
activity issues.
The advantage of the established nets like Ecars and Maritime Mobile is
that they keep the frequencies open with a net control presence. One way
to deal with that is to establish initial contact there and invite a chat
off frequency wherever there might be an opening. Without a net control it
will be that much harder to hold any given frequency open. Just sayin'.

Thats a new one for me.

As a early founder participant in HfLink, HfLinker, HfPack and others,
we worked out bunch of frequencies for 10-160 that are still established
.... but the HfPack group is dying on the vine from lack of users.

HfPack users have complained to me over the years about lack of other
HfPack stations to chat with. Due to their limited power, antenna and on
the air time, I have been encouraging mobile stations to make calls on
those frequencies too. That way the mobiles attract other mobiles and
some base stations, and that gives group activity that will help the
HfPacker have some one to chat with too.

In USB

if enough users were active, then a regular net schedule could be worked
out some time on some frequency.
