[Mobile-Portable] Screwdrivers and whips

Ed,
I've done 75 meters on an SS whip and it works. Hypothetical statements
such as yours never hold water compared to actual experiences. Try it
before you condemn it. Besides, I was comparing costs. It appears to cost
nearly $1,000 to get on the air with an autotune screwdriver system, or 3- 4
times what an autotuner/whip system costs. If you have the budget for the more
expensive system, go ahead. But if a ham is not as well heeled, it's good
to know that there are less expensive options that do the same thing. The
performance of each is another conversation.
Does anyone have solid comparison experience with both? I'm open to
learning facts associated with actual QSO's.

Best,

Then there's the super simple 8.5' stainless steel whip fed by an
autotuner. No operator involvement for tuning needed. Just start talking
and you're
tuned.
Cost for screwdriver antenna appears to be ~ $500 - $800 plus
controller. Cost for SS whip and autotuner ~ $250 TOTAL. Just sayin'.
