[Mobile-Portable] Automotive Circuit Breakers VS Fuses ?

Joe  ,  I like to do that too but I also like to here from "Hands On" users of these products. We have some of the best manufaturers known but sometimes they may stretch things a bit to make a sale plus on the bottom of this Cooper Bussman circuit breaker its stamped "Hecho In Mexico" and if there quality control is not up to par it doesnt meet the printed spec's. But Cooper Bussman has a wonderful reputation and when it comes to high amp circuit protection they need to be correct because a fire could start in a automobile and you know where that could lead to if it went to the courts. But I have been told that nowadays they dont take that into consideration anymore , might be cheaper to pay higher out of pocket liability claims . higher insurance coverage rather than making a quality product. The airline industry is noted taking this route but thanks to the US Government they are forced to make the needed correction "after a crash". But Im getting way off topic here , Thanks for your help as always , yes the specs should be looked at but I cant remember who makes those fuses at Pep Boys ? I will see if there shown on there website.  73  ,  Randy  N5WV / LL

Hi Randy,
My advice is to look at the specs on the manufacturers  web sites for
any circuit breakers or fuses that you might consider buying.  There you will
be very enlightened as to the "hold" current ratings as well as  the
interrupt times at various overload conditions. Then you can make an  informed
choice for your particular application. General statements asserting  that
breakers are faster than fuses or somehow otherwise better or vice versa  cannot
be relied upon alone unless some research is done.

Hello  Group ,   Im wanting to install "overall" short circuit protection
at my batteries. Im looking at using the Buss CB-185-150  150 amp water
proof automotive circuit breakers with both batteries in my Ford Excursion 6.0
diesel. But over the years I have read where in some cases a fused system
will  offer better protection than a circuit breaker ? I cant remember the
details  but if anyone can give me some tips on using circuit breakers vs
fuses it  would be appreciated. I like the reset feature of a circuit breaker
where  fuses must be changed out and spares must be kept on hand if you want a
fast  turn around time with getting back on the air. Any tips ??   Randy
