[Mobile-Portable] Tin vs Gold Contacts?

I wouldn't be too concerned about dirt. Any small reasonable amount that
might be present will be pushed aside along with any excess lube. Besides,
you can cover connectors if being stored in an especially dirty environment.
People used to say not to lubricate locks with liquid lube as well, but
you know what? I never had a frozen or corroded lock that wouldn't open.
Instead I had freely operating locks even in harsh environments when other
people subscribing to the "dry" theory of lock care were struggling trying to
 get them to work.
Wet lubes may not be perfect, but they sure beat struggling against
other difficulties.

Anything that is oily or greasy will attract "dirt" that will remain in
the
female part of the contact and anywhere else it gets to and is hard to
completely get rid of. It is not recommended. If you use the "tin" type
of
contacts, just DO IT and then be prepared to disconnect and clean with a
contact cleaner which will not leave a residue that will attract dirt or
anything airborn. They will last for quite some time, depending on your
environment, just not as long as gold.
