[Mobile-Portable] antenna mounting position?

My response doesn't specifically address your  question but, I have a screwdriver antenna mount on the left rear of my 98 Grand Caravan which is physically attached to the hitch receiver, and I pulled my ground out with 1 inch braid from behind the taillight lens along with the coax and control line. In my opinion, the shorter the ground lead the better. If the 97 is built the same as my 98, then I think you can access the body panel through the jack storage area.
