[Mobile-Portable] HI-Q or Tarheel

Agreed. Mine is the 4-80 as that was the largest one he made at the time.
It is now nearly 7 years old and I wouldn't be without it. All you have to
do is compare it to ANY other screwdriver and you will no longer have any
question which to buy. I use a 102 inch whip with mine and get almost
continuous, unsolicited, "great signal" reports. I had purchased an
amplifier for use (it will handle FULL legal limit) but with this antenna,
it is of no use. It is mounted on a receiver hitch on my car and yes, I
trip a few low flying birds (13 ft 9 inches), BUT that's just the way it is.
I have no use for 10 meters at this time of the cycle but can get to it by
using a 6 ft whip (stored in the trunk) if needed. The 102 inch whip is
mounted by one of those 1/2 turn quick detach mounts used on that other band
we won't acknowledge having ever been on. Quick and easy to take off for
the garage or the drive-through at the bank and stick in the back window to
the floor of the passenger seat.

I cannot speak about any of the others but some of them are not sealed and
some even gain and lose height when adjusted, this one is totally sealed and
has no external moving parts.

I use it daily just running around and normally average 5 or so contacts in
an hour of running around picking up "stuff". Love HF mobile. Seven years
old and NO problems. I use mostly 40 meters and cover pretty much the
entire US. Most of my running is about noon so there isn't much coming from
the west but talked to California today and it was good copy both ways (from
St. Louis area).

OF course, realize that whatever you decide on will be the best (for you).

I have no interest in any other than what I have (maybe the 5-160) and if it
was destroyed somehow, Charlie would get another call immediately.

73, Jim
