Select SWR on the menu of your 706. See what
that reads when you whistle into the mike on SSB.
I'll bet you have considerable reflected power and
the rig is reducing input power to prevent damage.

I know that at least one reply to your message has
stated that MFJ analyzers tend to have peculiarities.
Personally, I have not found the things to be worth
a flip. A Bird or other high quality Wattmeter is the
only way to see if you are truly loading into a "flat"
antenna system.

Internal SWR metering can also be suspect.

Ok all I have another question abt my HF mobile setup.

I'm about to run out of ideas.

I put a MFJ-269 analyzer on my 40m Hustler antenna the other day, the
analyzer shows 1.1:1 at 7277, flat SWR but yet I go to transmit and might be
getting 70 watts PEP out.

If I had known HF was this tricky, never would have even attempted to try.

I'm open to suggestions, cause its got me baffled.

If I don't get it going with lower SWR, there will soon be a 706MKII up for
sale and I'll give up on my idea of HF mobile.

73,
Brian
