KComm, our local ham store, used to sell a nice, small solid state linear.
I don't remember the price or wattage but they sold a bunch.  (210) 344-3311
is their number and they open at 1000 CST.

         I just joined this group, so this may have been hashed out in the 
past -- suggest you take a look at http://www.k0bg.com/ there are good 
articles there.  Note especially the "Amps & Stuff" article where it 
mentions amps like the Metron, Ten -Tec, Ameritron, etc.  Once you see one 
that you think would work, try looking for it on eBay or any of the ham 
auction sites.  You just might get lucky!
