Thank your Rick(KN3C) for your response to my initial
post and to everyone for your input.
I enjoy working on mobile noise problems of all kinds.
I have a friend who was having a devil of a time
getting rid of alternator whine in a Yaesu dual band
VHF/UHF rig in his vehicle. He and I had tried
everything except building a filter(which I have done
several times). I remembered someone had made posting
about installing Miller hash chokes in the + & - leads
to the transceiver.
Anyway, I remembered that you had good results with
the 10 amp hash chokes so we tried them and walla, no
alternator whine.
Mouser has a section in their catalog called "Miller
Heavy Duty Hash Chokes". The ones we used were Mouser
stock # 542-5220, L=8.8uH, max I=10 amps.
They also sell 15 and 20 amp ones, but of course at a
sacrifice in inductance.
Hope this info helps some folks.
