Thanks to all for the suggestions. I do have a separate ground but perhaps 
the quality of the connection has gone bad.

I hoped to chat with Robert (TarHeel) at the Orlando hamfest yesterday but 
he was not there this year. One of their dealers was covering. The word is 
he had just gotten out of the hospital.

I'm out of town this week without the mobile so I won't be able to report
