[Mobile-Portable] Noise in new Ford 6 liter Turbo diesel ?

At the risk of passing information already out, the source of the noise
in the Ford Powerstroke diesels is the injector drive module (IDM). On
my '95, I can operate 12 and 10m, only when the bands are WIDE open, 6M
if I use the horizontal antenna on the rear of the truck, and it's AOK
on 2M and up.

See the antenna installation at http://www.nd2x.net/pix/up-hyd.jpg - one
can barely see the 10M/12M whip on the driver's-side rear bumber.

I have had some success with the ANC-4 noise cancelling unit, but it
takes some tinkering. I took my "screw-driver" HF antenna off in favor
of the simple whip for 10/12M. I operate almost all VHF+ anyway, making
more contacts on 2M SSB than all the other bands (have 12M through 23cM,
minus 902MHz) and modes combined - HI!

The solution is to buy 2003 power stroke or after which, apparently,
have alleviated the IDM radiation problem significantly.....

For a write-up on the powerstroke diesel noise problem (and solution),
see http://www.realhamradio.com/Ford_F350.htm

FWIW.

Best regards,

Paul ND2X

PS - brazed brass nuts to the tailpipe and bolted 1" heavy ground braids
to the frame - this is primarily a gas-engine (with spark plugs, etc)
measure. Didn't help on the IDM problem at all - SHUCKS!
