I missed the first posts on this, but maybe you'd be interested in the
photos I have of my ScrewDriver Antenna mount...???  which is a mount
cantelevered out from under the front bumper, then extends vertically
(however far you'd need to do so, I guess). This keeps the antenna handy
and the base of it above the hoodline of my older Subaru wagon.

I do get some *looks* when it is attached for Ham use, but it is
detachable for whenever I want to remove it.
