Part of this doesn't seem right to me, Mac...
What I always have tuned for is max noise on the particular freq that I am
have selected... that's resonance. When I have done that w/ my
screwdriver, the freq noise I am looking for is masked by the brush noise,
and that brush noise makes it more difficult to discern the increase in
freq noise. I think that suppressing the brush noise of the screwdriver
motor will enhance that tuning-by-noise process.
On another note... my Larry's antenna doesn't take so very long between 75
& 40 (it's definitely there within the time of the Tune feature of the
706) but between 75 & 160 is a looong road.
