I bet a lot of the car is similar to my 92 Legacy.

I slid out the cupholder in the dashboard, fashioned a piece of plastic
the right thickness to slide in where the cupholder was, angled the front
edge toward the driver seat, and beveled that same front edge about 20
degrees.

The remote face mounting bracket screwed right into the slanted & beveled
plastic edge at just the right angle for viewing from the driver
seat...toward the driver and tilted up. Slick, no holes.

I snaked the cable for it out and around where the steering post goes thru
the dash. Slick, no holes.

My Legacy had a spot for a second battery under the hood. I did that and
use a diode isolator to keep it charged. One time I ran the car battery
down doing other stuff and was able to jumpstart myself! (-: ((This may
have Freudian meaning))
I mounted my main IC-706 unit under the passenger seat, snaking 2 ea. #6
stranded power wires into and out of the unibody vert. & horiz. passenger
side front door channel. Slick, no holes.

By the way, for other wires I found a knock-out in the upper driver's foot
area. I took out the plastic plug, ran my wires, and firmly stuffed the
remainder of the hole with a terrycloth rag. Slick, no holes.

My screwdriver antenna mount is attached to a 1/2 inch steel loop which
cantelevers a plate out to the front, whereon I went up 14 inches and mad
an actual flat mount for the actual antenna. Slick, no holes.
