Earlier in the year, I had a Diamond HV-7 antenna on my GMC Jimmy, for about
six months. In that time it has corroded badly over the "stainless" and
plated surfaces. I have seen this occur years ago, on the SS mounting
brackets of some Blonder Tongue commercial TV yagis, in Orlando. It was
from poor quality materials making up the stainless. You could actually see
spots of rust and surface deterioration, in the stainless.
Although I might occasionally drive near the coast, I live and function
inland to a basically retirement area, known for it's beautiful weather and
clean air. Air pollution is almost unheard of here. There are no factories
or related smokestacks. I do not live near the salt water. Additionally,
my Jimmy shows no corrosion or surface stress on the metal or painted
surfaces. My workplace has large satellite dishes which show little rust
and corrosion. But the nationwide importer/distributor RF Parts, is totally
unwilling to replace the Diamond antenna anyway. Some warranty! They claim
the problem is in my locale. Not!
So, I guess I'm out 125 bucks or so.
I would be interested in replacing the Diamond with the Comet competitor.
Anyone else have comments of comparison or had similar problems with the
Diamond HV-7 and RF Parts warranties?
