The reason I used a spring was to add another 6 inches of mast below the loading coil.  The net effect was a loading coil 6 inches farther away from the roof of the truck.  Similar idea with the smaller Hustler spring above the loading coil--it was a convenient way to add another 4 inches of stinger length.  But, I knew the risks and consequences beforehand.
