[Mobile-Portable] Hello! :) and a linear loaded whip?

I am glad to be a member and looking forward to some interesting topics.

I  was thinking of something last night.  I know how a helical whip will
work, but has anyone tried making a linear loaded whip? 

I don't think it will work well, but I am thinking of taking a piece of 300
ohm TV wire and cutting it a little longer than 1/8th wave, shorting the top
so the antenna looks like an inverted J, then connect the right side wire to
the coax center lead and use the left side wire for trimming.  

If it does work, it will fit inside a fishing pole I have to be used for HF
/pp operations.
