Hello, Everyone.

My name is Dick Flanagan K7VC and I am the new moderator of the QTH.net
Mobile-Portable Reflector. I have been a ham for over 40 years and have
been involved in mobile and portable operation for most of that time. I
also moderate the Icom list here on QTH.net as well as perhaps a dozen
others on various venues.

One small change I am making here on the Mobile-Portable reflector is to
change the default message response so that it goes back to the entire
reflector, not just to the poster of the original message. While it can be
difficult to explain why this is better to someone who has been bitten by
this feature once or twice (as most of us have), I have noted time and time
again that some of the most informative exchanges on any reflector come
about by one person responding to someone else's response--whether it is to
correct or expand or disagree or simply reinforce that previous
response--and then someone else responds to that response and so on and on....

While this feature also tends to encourage topic drift, if I can stay on
top of things that should make MY job more difficult, not yours, and I
obviously feel it benefits the overall signal-to-noise ratio or I wouldn't
encourage it. Speaking of topic drift, anything within the realm
mobile-portable operations is fair game. Topics which stray too far afield
will be politely referred to more appropriate reflectors and flames or
personal attacks will never be tolerated.

It has been several months since there has been any activity on this list,
so let's see if we can't attract some new blood. Hopefully, by keeping our
discussions up front, we can provide a more attractive resource to the rest
of the amateur community.

Any questions, complaints or suggestions, please send them to me any time.

73, Dick
