[Mobile-Portable] All-in-one radio versus seperate rdaios?

Friend of mine had his FT100 die on UHF, when the
price to fix [only UHF] was $560 It was claimed on
insurance and got a new one. Had them send his old
one back now he has a backup HF rig.
But he was without for a couple of weeks..... I guess
there are pluses and minuses.
