This comes under the heading of "having an amazing grasp of the
obvious", but there are general trends which have been apparent, since
day one, for noise blankers in ICOM, Kenwood and Yeasu radios
(alphabetical order - I have no ax to grind, here!). During 40+ years
of ham radio (not ALL of it using "rice-box" equipment because USA used
to have some of their own) I have noted the following generalities
(don't presume to do any "politically correct" dung misinterpretations
here - "rice box" is a colloquial, not derogatory, term for a radio made
in the orient; I didn't make it up, but I use the term, and that's just
the way it is!) - anyway, with regard to noise blanker trends:

1. ICOM: GREAT against ignition noise (or any true impulse noise), not
so hot or simply ineffective against line noises or any other
non-impulse moise.

2. Kenwood: The best all around noise blankers of any of the three
lines. Historically effective against almost any electrical noise one
might be able to expect ANY help on (there ARE those noise waveforms
that NO "noise blanker" - not discussing "DSP" here - will be effective
against).

3. Yeasu: Noise blankers have varied from excellent (FT-100D as an
example - I own one) to so ineffective that one wonders if there is
anything connected to the noise blanker switch on the front panel, i.e.
noise blankler performance varied from model to model. One never knew
unless one actually tried one, if a given Yeasu radio model had a noise
blanker or not. In the past, there have been a BUNCH in the latter
category!!!

Remember, these are general trends. Generalities are not absolute.
What I have pointed out is LONG-TERM TRENDS, and they are factual.

Hope this information helps someone.
