If you're looking for ideas on how to make very heavy duty mounts for a
couple bucks, you can check out one example from my website.

Oh, the only other antenna I'd run outside a screwdriver would be a
bugcatcher. On deciding which way to go with any mobile setup is to
determine how it's gonna be used. If it's casual or occasional use, then
Hamsticks are pretty good. If you want the best in performance and
flexibility while mobile, then it's a screwdriver... If you want simply the
best performance, than a homebrew bugcatcher with an 8" coil, mounted as
high on the vehicle, with the antenna tall enough just to be legal will do
it!!

Grounding - it's a tedious process on new vehicles today. Some of the body
parts are glued together. Have a process, be patient, do things slowly, and
you'll end up with a killer install.

Just because it's a diesel doesn't mean it'll be quiet. They all still have
electric fuel pumps installed, plus fuel injection systems. These days,
having just sparkplug noise to deal with would be a blessing! I know of
several diesel owners that have a heck of a time with the fuel injection. It
may not cause noise, but while transmitting, things start having problems
with acceleration, or other motor management functions...

I have been reading all of the posts with great interest. What I would like

to see now is all the comments about grounding underneath the vehicle and
what the effects are.
Wouldn't hurt to see a thread on various ways of mounting the antenna. The
mount has been a problem for me.
