Have you considered the Am-Com automatic screwdriver controller?

I have been using this method since 1994:
Get a two way antenna switch
Hook the radio to position A
Hook an antenna analyzer (I use an old MFJ-207) to position B
Coax from antenna to the common connector
Dial in the desired frequency on your rig (cw, usb/lsb)
Antenna switch to position B
Tune analyzer to that frequency and you will get a loud beat note.
Run the antenna up/down until you get a zero beat
Switch to antenna position A
Start talking!
This method lets me do all tuning with one finger and no eyes (they are
on the road) and no transmitting a carrier.
I have also seen where you can set the FT-100 to cw at low power and
install a small relay in the control box that will close when you move
the control switch up or down. Run a line from the relay to the rig's cw
jack.
The MTR function on the 100 toggles ALC or SWR so get it in the SWR
mode.
As you tune the antenna the rig will key a low power carrier and you can
watch the SWR go up or down.
I hope all this is not confusing.

Jim, N5QL

Here comes this year's winner in the "dumbest question" category.
What is the safest, quickest, most effective way to manually tune a High
Sierra mobile antenna with a FT100D?
The technique of changing the antenna coil position while listening for
loudest noise in radio doesn't seem to work for me.
Usually I am NOT driving while using the radio. But, if I am alone and
want
to change bands, I cannot be staring at the radio and using three hands
unless
I pull over and stop.
Please do NOT assume that I fully comprehend how to manipulate the
FT100D. I
have been going through the users manual and tinkering but haven't
solved
this SIMPLE task yet.
Any suggestions?
