has it always whined or is this something new? You hear the whine because it is not being filtered (anymore), so I would check for grounding problems, perhaps you have a bad diode (my old Dodge altenator used a stack of diodes in a full wave three phase config). Do you hear this whine in the stereo of the HF or the V/UHF FM rig? Tell me more. Bob K8YS
