Scott,
I have a 2002 Chevrolet 2500HD Crew Cab Truck that I installed a
Icom-706MKII into.
I have a second battery installed through an isolator and the radio is
connected straight to this
battery.
I had some alternator whine when I first installed it as well as some
ignition noise.
To get rid of the alternator whine, I installed ground braid from the radio
main unit to chassis ground
and then from chassis ground to the engine block where the battery ground
was.
For the ignition noise, I have the coil per cylinder setup, I installed
clamp on ferrite cores on each plug wire.
Make sure that the radio is grounded good. I have heard of people putting
ground straps on all door hinges,
hood and trunk hinges, tailpipes, and chassis. This would be a good starting
point.
Good luck,
Tom
