In case it wasn't clear on my previous posting... the problem with the RF
shut-down in my case was that the ground screw was not used on where the
separation cable connects to the radio. I was able to solve the problem
with a ferrite core... but when I was alerted to this ground screw and
installed one, the ferrite core became unnecessary.
I am happy to report that I just returned from a 3,100 mile, two-week
vacation with the family, and my set-up worked flawlessly (IC-706mkiiG,
Hi-Q Antennas 3/80). Thanks to those that replied about the ground screw -
I would have never figured that one out... HI!
ALSO... I isolated some intermittent "hash" noise I was having... turned
out to be the heating/cooling FAN. When I hear the hash, all I have to do
is turn the fan OFF then back ON and it stays fixed for a while... then
eventually comes back. Any suggestions on that one? This is on a 1997 Tahoe.
