[Mobile-Portable] Mobile Amplifiler Installation

I am seriously considering installing an Ameritron
ALS-500M 500 watt Mobile Amp.  There are too many
times when running mobile I need just a few dbs extra
help.
I know there are perils involved in running a mobile
amp in vehicles since they started having computers in
them.
I first will try it in my 1987 Ford E150 Van(which
does have a computer in it).  I do most of my mobile
hamming from this vehicle and have an auxillary
battery installed.
I know some of the basic things like excellent
grounding,
heavy wires(4 or 6 ga.), etc.  Does anyone have any
experience or knowledge about this area.  Any comments
would be appreciated.  Thank you.
