[Mobile-Portable] Hash

Had this same problem on my 94 S10 Blazer and my 02 S10 van. The cure was
getting a very good ground to the antenna. That got rid of all the fuel
pump hash with no chokes, toroids, etc. On the 94 Blazer, the antenna was
mounted on the swing-out spare tire carrier. The hash went away when I put
ground straps across the hinges.

On the van, I'm using the High Sierra trailer hitch mount. I bonded the
mount to the hitch and ran a bolt through the receiver into the square
stock that fits into the receiver. The entire thing is powder coated so I
couldn't rely on metal to metal contact.

Unfortunately, I never could cure the ignition noise in either vehicle.
The Blazer got gradually worse despite my replacing the entire ignition
system with factory components. I even purchased custom low EMI racing
ignition wires. The van is worse than the Blazer right from the factory,
but fortunately the blanker in the TS-50 deals with most of it.

Ain't mobile operation fun?

Subject: [Mobile-Portable] Hash

I know this subject has been going around for years, but I'm about to give
up. In my recently acquired 2000 Expedition, I installed my trusty but
ancient IC706 and used all the standard wiring and grounding expertise that
I've used over the past 10 years in different vehicles. However this car
gives me 4-5 S unit of noise, engine on vs. engine off. It doesn't appear
to be fuel pump noise from what I've researched. The rig runs straight to
battery (but it's a long run of DC cable so I've added torroids). I've
removed and cleaned standard Ford grounds and of course, added my own
everywhere I can think of. The antenna is a Hustler mounted on a trailer
hitch extension off to the driver's side of the car, which is bolted onto
the hitch and grounded to the chassis.

Any new ideas from anyone? 20 meter seems worse than 40.
