I know this subject has been going around for years, but I'm about to give up. In my recently acquired 2000 Expedition, I installed my trusty but ancient IC706 and used all the standard wiring and grounding expertise that I've used over the past 10 years in different vehicles. However this car gives me 4-5 S unit of noise, engine on vs. engine off. It doesn't appear to be fuel pump noise from what I've researched. The rig runs straight to battery (but it's a long run of DC cable so I've added torroids). I've removed and cleaned standard Ford grounds and of course, added my own everywhere I can think of. The antenna is a Hustler mounted on a trailer hitch extension off to the driver's side of the car, which is bolted onto the hitch and grounded to the chassis.
Any new ideas from anyone? 20 meter seems worse than 40.
