The screwdirver antenna has 2 big advantages for the serious mobiler.
Efficient on the lower bandsis much better, as Richard says, and
convenience.  you can go from 3.500 MHz to 29.7. Mhz without leaving =
the
front seat of the car.

No question that the screwdrivers are better, but that the difference =
is
most obvious at the lower frequencies.  There have been several tests =
on
75 meter mobile, and the screwdrivers are several db better than the
standard commercial type antennas. Actually, the bigger the antenna, =
and
the more massive the coil, the better.  I suspect that the difference
gets pretty minor, almost unmeasurable, at 10m or 15m.
